Oh, the infinite black hole of research…
When do we stop consuming and start creating?
The answer is yesterday.
For years, I spent countless hours learning how to market my business, how to set up webinars, how to change my mindset etc. I spent money on books, courses, seminars and more. For years, I wasted precious time that I could have spent creating, in hopes that I would feel prepared enough, perfect enough, expert enough. But the truth is, that time will never come. Because if you’re anything like me, you’re a learner. You never feel satisfied and you are constantly looking to grow and improve.
And that’s ok. I highly encourage to invest in yourself, and your education.
What’s not ok is when you put your goals and dreams on hold while you wait to feel ready. I was learning a whole lot, but I was not working.
A few things I realized about endless consumption:
- Learning is an easy way to put off big decisions. Why do you think so many people go back to school to get advanced degrees?
- There is no RISK in consuming. No fear of rejection, of being ridiculed, of putting yourself out there.. There is NO RISK when you’re stuck in the black hole of endless research.
- You learn more by doing. Hey, don’t get me wrong. I’m OBSESSED with learning. I love learning. But it’s a problem when you don’t commit to practicing what you learn. There’s a reason why they say you learn more by doing. Even if you stumble and fall, get back up and DO.
So in case you didn’t get the picture by now, it’s time to start creating. The longer you wait, the more opportunities you’ll miss to help someone with that talent or skill that you have.
The real question is, what are you going to create? Leave your comments below! 🙂
